As the coronavirus devastated thousands of lives worldwide, it has laid bare the rotten foundations our societies were founded upon. All are affected, yet the breadth and depth of the effect brutally vary. The pandemic and its consequences have not only revealed the tendencies of our systems but of its already existing frailties as well.

Banaag Diwa, the official literary folio of Atenews, calls on the growing literary and photography community of Ateneo de Davao University to examine, capture, and reveal the concentric factors that have plagued our humanity since and have now enabled the tragedy of this pandemic. Writers and photographers are invited to take part this year’s Banaag Diwa: Pandemya.
Prizes
Top 3 short stories, poems, and photo essays will be awarded with cash prizes as follows:
1st Placer
Php 2,000
2nd Placer
Php 1,500
3rd Placer
Php 1,000
While submissions are open to all Ateneo de Davao students, alumni, and faculty and staff, only AdDU students in undergraduate programs are eligible for the awards.
General Guidelines
General Guidelines
The author must include a bionote (name, year and course, political affiliation or anything that relates to the writer) not exceeding 75 words.
All document files must be submitted in the following format:
  • A4-sized, PDF format
  • 1 inch margin on all sides
  • Garamond, size 12
Deadline of submissions is on November 16, 2020.
Poetry Guidelines
Poetry
A suite of 3-7 poems must be submitted in Binisaya, Filipino or English. If the author prefers to use any language or dialect, a translation must be secured using the aforementioned ones.
Short Story Guidelines
Short Story
Each entry must consist of at least 2,000 words in Binisaya, Filipino, or English.
Photo Essay Guidelines
Photo Essay
Must include two parts: the photos and the manuscript. The manuscript for the finished essay will require 150-350 words. There must be 3-7 photos included and should be saved as .jpg, with a resolution of at least 300 ppi. Each photo must be accompanied with a caption of 50 words.
